No two ways about it, our first Whitby Lit Fest in November was a blazing triumph. Punching way above its weight, this brand new festival didn’t start small. Sixty-four writers, actors and musicians took part, including some very big names in a rich mix of events spread all round the town over four days. Everyone loved it: the authors themselves, local people, and the near half of attenders who were valuable visitors at an otherwise quiet time of year.
It’s a proudly local event, founded and driven by a committee of six. It doesn’t only boost tourism, a policy of keeping ticket prices down means it’s open to one and all. A registered charity, the first festival actually turned a modest profit, thanks in part to some seed funding. But an event of this ambition and quality will always need support, financial, of course, and we’ve been hugely grateful for gifts of goods and services. Now, with our second festival on the horizon, we’re looking for sponsors – businesses ready not only to give money, but to become our named partners in the event. From such a hugely successful launch, our Lit Fest surely deserves to grow and flourish, and if you and your business would like to be a part of that, we’d love to hear from you.
