Getting to Whitby
By Car
From York (Approx. 47 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes)
- Take the A64 east towards Malton.
- Join the A169 at Malton and follow it north through Pickering and across the scenic North York Moors.
- Continue on the A169 until you reach Whitby.
From Middlesbrough (Approx. 32 miles, 50 minutes)
- Take the A171 southeast towards Guisborough.
- Continue on the A171 through the North York Moors, passing through villages such as Scaling and Sandsend.
- Arrive in Whitby.
From Scarborough (Approx. 20 miles, 40 minutes)
- Take the A171 northbound from Scarborough.
- Follow the road along the coast, passing through Cloughton and Robin Hood’s Bay.
- Continue on the A171 until you reach Whitby.
By Public Transport
By Train
- There is no direct train to Whitby from York or Middlesbrough. However, you can take a train from York to Middlesbrough and then transfer to the Esk Valley Line, which runs to Whitby.
- The Esk Valley Line is a scenic route passing through villages and moorland.
By Bus
- From York: Take the Coastliner 840 bus, which provides a direct service to Whitby via Malton and Pickering.
- From Middlesbrough: The Arriva X93 bus service operates between Middlesbrough and Whitby, running via Guisborough.
- From Scarborough: The Arriva X93/X94 bus runs directly from Scarborough to Whitby along the A171.
