Getting to Whitby

By Car

From York (Approx. 47 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes)

  1. Take the A64 east towards Malton.
  2. Join the A169 at Malton and follow it north through Pickering and across the scenic North York Moors.
  3. Continue on the A169 until you reach Whitby.

From Middlesbrough (Approx. 32 miles, 50 minutes)

  1. Take the A171 southeast towards Guisborough.
  2. Continue on the A171 through the North York Moors, passing through villages such as Scaling and Sandsend.
  3. Arrive in Whitby.

From Scarborough (Approx. 20 miles, 40 minutes)

  1. Take the A171 northbound from Scarborough.
  2. Follow the road along the coast, passing through Cloughton and Robin Hood’s Bay.
  3. Continue on the A171 until you reach Whitby.

By Public Transport

By Train

  • There is no direct train to Whitby from York or Middlesbrough. However, you can take a train from York to Middlesbrough and then transfer to the Esk Valley Line, which runs to Whitby.
