Kate Fenton, Festival Patron

We asked Festival Patron Kate Fenton to introduce herself, and share a bit about her wide-ranging career.

From Enid Blyton to Stephen King, Georgette Heyer to Mick Herron, I’ve been a book junkie my whole life.  And after a career taking in the Houses of Parliament, the BBC, and the orchestra pit on Great Yarmouth pier, I ended up as a novelist myself.  So I’m delighted to be patron of Whitby Lit Fest, of course I am.  Book festivals are a fascinating chance to hear from the authors we love.  As a producer of Radio 4’s Bookshelf, I was lucky enough to interview some of my literary heroes.  Since leaving the day job and settling in this glorious part of the world, I’ve written seven novels, radio drama, assorted journalism and, of all crazy projects, am currently at work on a musical.  It’s based on a book by former Children’s Laureate Anne Fine, and how did it start?  Why, I interviewed Anne at a book festival!

We’ll be announcing more details of Kate’s role within the Festival later in the year, so stay tuned for that! The best way to stay up to date is by signing up to the mailing list using the form at the bottom of the page.
